Comments: The first episode has already been aired and it sure looks beautiful. Animated by Studio DEEN, you can see that they definitely have quite a good budget ^^ The beautifully animated characters look almost exactly like the gorgeous illustrations that original game graphics illustrator, Yone Kazuki has drawn. I’ve not played the game yet but I’m a fan of her artwork. I believe fans of the game shouldn’t have a big reason to complain because the quality looks pretty awesome in the first episode. Let’s see if they can keep that up :)

As someone who really hates whiny heroines, I’m pleasantly surprised by the protaganist so far, well, granted this is only the first episode… it is a good start for me.

Anyway, like with all otome games (and anme), a stellar male voice cast is a must. In this anime, you’ll find the likes of Miki Shinichirou, Morikubo Shoutaro, Toriumi Kousuke, Yoshino Hiroyuki, Yusa Kouji as the leads. Anime: Kurozuka (Miyano Mamoru, Paku Romi)

KurozukaThe samurai setting caught my attention…

Quick Summary (edited from Anime News Network):

Kuro falls in love with Kuromitsu but realizes she conceals a dark secret. She is unable to die and continues to live for thousands of years as Japan evolves into a future society.

Comments:
Kurozuka (黒塚) is based on manga by Yumemakura Baku and Noguchi Takashi. I’m rather impressed by the first episode… blood-thirsty samurai (zombies?), swords, supernatural and a rather dark atmosphere. Action and animation quality is high with non-intrusive CG. Lovely character design. Although the story and themes are completely different (and I probably shouldn’t compare them), it reminds me of the quality of Shigurui (シグルイ), a pure samurai anime based on a manga/novel by Yamaguchi Takayuki which I enjoyed a lot. We’ll see if the story will turn out to be just as dark, gory and edgy. Continue reading “Anime: Kurozuka (Miyano Mamoru, Paku Romi)”
