Event: Smile! Its STGCC 2009!

Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2009

Smile! Huge Playmobil at Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention 2009

Popped by Suntec Convention Centre for the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention 2009 today. Spaced out nicely into two halls instead of one this time round, the sardine and chaotic situation that plagued the previous year’s event was fortunately nowhere in sight. My friend and I could take a more leisurely stroll and browse the booths without stress.

Board located at the entrance, illustrated live by artists invited by the organisers

Not sure why but I wasn’t able to pick up or feel the energy and excitement of the event. The 3-day event 14-16 August 2009 starts at 11am daily. Maybe we arrived too late (last day) / early (We were there at around noon). I think it’s probably just me. On hindsight however, the presence of bigger crowds might have added more vitality and excitement to the event. ^^;;; The irony…

1-metre-tall playmobil filled with actual sized playmobil toys. Used to love them ^^

Star Wars is also a staple at these events. Check out the life-sized R2D2 (not cosplay)

Cosplay Kamen Rider!

Now… guess which is the toy?

And… guess who is beside him? Out of place when taken together but… I think you can guess from his clawed weapons. Yeah. Wolverine from X-men.

Pretty Blythe dolls on display.

The best thing about cosplaying characters like Ultraman, Kamen Rider and these monsters… if you’re the shy type, your face won’t be recognised lol~

I know they’re very popular with collectors, but to be honest, I think they can look kinda creepy if their eyes are looking at a certain angle. ^^;;;

The costumes, styling and displays were very beautiful tho.

The anime-themed cosplay contest only starts later during the day but we didn’t hang around for that. But as we left, we spotted cosplayers of Sephiroth, Kagamin Ren (Len), Monster Quest character(?), getting ready for the afternoon contest. No pics tho. They were not posing :P

To be fair, this event boasts a stellar list of designers, artists and illustrators. For more information about the event, visit official site: http://www.singaporetgcc.com/

Just a couple more months to the Anime Festival Asia 2009 that’ll be held in November 21st-22nd! Looking forward to it!

  1. Omfg, Mori Chack was there!? I think it’s a good thing I wasn’t there, then, I would’ve jumped him >__>;;

    I wish I could afford a blythe…and some Pullips and BJDs…sob

    1. ^^ We didn’t see him this time round hehe. He was friendly and accommodating to fans, signing autographs and taking pics with them. But it was too crowded last year and my friend didn’t want to wait :P

      If I have the $ I’ll probably get a BJD instead of Blythe/Pullip… but I guess just ONE BJD, we can buy 4 Blythes/Pullips already lol~

  2. Ahhh! Toko doki was there!! n-no way~TTATT

    I love the dolls an yea there a bit crappy but i think that’s what give them there charm.;;

    1. There were a number of big name illustrators who had booths there and displaying and selling their works. The creator of Gloomy Bear was here too. We saw him last year only saw the sales staff when we went down that day.

      The Blythe doll costumes were really pretty. They’re definitely for display rather than for rough play ^^;;;

  3. There were many more toys on display ^^ Just that I didn’t go crazy with the photo taking. I’ve not seen Toffee dolls before *_* googled their images and you’re right… their eyes are scary! Blythe is so much cuter in comparison.

  4. Those blythes are so cute! I agree they can be a little eerie but in a cute way, I think… at least they’re not as bad as the Toffee dolls!

    Anyway, I love cool toys, this seems like it’d be so much fun!
