Event: Indonesia Japan Expo 2008 (1st – 9th November)

Just returned from a short trip to Jakarta for the Indonesia Japan Expo 2008 www.indonesiajapanexpo.com Programs include fan art demo, cosplay competitions, J-rock Band performances, workshops for origami (Japanese paper folding), Ikebana (Japanese style flower arrangement) demo, Batik (Traditional Indonesian cloth) painting, etc. I enjoyed a pretty cool 3D show of the Shinkansen (新幹線) at the event but missed out the ghost house tho… there wasn’t enough time.

Kohaku

If you’re interested to find out about where to obtain original anime/BL goods in Indonesia, do pop-by this booth in Hall A to find out more. I bought 2 clear files from the booth. One of them is an out-of-print Junjou Romantica file and the other one is from Tsubasa Chronicle. Will post pics later XD

Besides publishing a free magazine on anime/manga/goods and Japanese culture kohaku-mag.com, they also feature an Indonesian online store 8orenji.com that carries only original goods, magazines, figures and doujinshi not easily available in Indonesia. Check it out too. Spend money wisely. Say “no” to bootlegs and buy original! ^^)b

Anyway, the main purpose of this visit was to catch up with my friend Akiyama and fangirl about BL together in person lol~ XD Let’s do it again, girl!

View from my apartment at around 630am (No traffic!)

Jakarta
Security is tight in most areas due to the impending execution of the Bali bombers (wiki). Security checkpoints were setup at the expo and all the shopping malls we visited. It didn’t cross my mind to take photos of that but probably good that I didn’t, in case I was deemed suspicious ^^” But generally, people are pretty much going on with their daily lives, working, studying…

Collage of random pix taken during my stay

Oh but I did forget to take a pix of the taxi we used as our main transport. In any case, if you visit Jakarta, use the taxis managed by Blue Bird Group. They’re the only taxi company that charges by the meter, so you don’t have to go through the stress of haggling prices with the drivers.

And another tip, there’s a service charge of 100,000 Indonesian Rupiah (approx US$9) at the airport when you check in for departure, so don’t spend all your money before you fly.

While waiting to board my flight, I bought an item at a shop inside the airport that I can use as souvenir and prop for my 1/6 action figures. No hints. I’ll be keeping that a secret first ;)

He’ll make a hilarious pet XD

  5. Lemme give you the website for Wakamaru-rent
    http://www.mhi.co.jp/kobe/wakamaru/english/

Wakamaru can watching the house while the family away and report unusual conditions thru internet. Wow
There are some other feature such as identifies 10 persons by face recognition..probably good to guard your bishonen collection. XD

hmm..cannot blame you, after all..it’s not neatly organized place. better be dashing like a nut than miss a flight.

  6. Hehehe… aren’t we suckers for the nicely suited up guys XD

Hai.. after finding my way inside, I realised that maybe I should have stayed calm and asked for directions properly first rather than dashing about like a nut. I felt quite silly :P

Ooo nice… hehehe I wonder how much the rent is for the robot?

Yesh my dear… gather the eyeballs! Gambatte! XD

  7. yeah no pic. Dang! well my memory could deceive me, perhaps the guy is not sooo handsome but his neat suit and nicely trimmed hair and tall posture got me so *ach…flowery*

The panic is worth because the airport is quite messy. I cannot even find the customer service LOL~

anyway the orange robot of Mitsubishi we saw is named Wakamaru and available for exhibition and rent thru their Hong Kong office.

Yup must start working on it and i clearly remember what you’ve said “eyeballs…eyeballs…”

  8. Okie! Keep me updated of your plans! XD and I’m sure you’ll do a great job for the website!

No worries about the airport service charge thingy. I think many countries have that too. I remember having to pay for it when I left Japan the last time I visited. But its been a couple of years since I went on a “proper” vacation, so I kinda forgot about it :P I think Indo airport is fine… ^^ I’m just not familiar with it that’s why I was quite flustered when I couldn’t find the check-in counter lol~ Having missed a flight before, I’m kinda paranoid. Sorry for putting you guys through my paranoia… Hontoni gomenasai~ m(_ _)m

No piccy of the handsome guy? Ah~ Zannen!!! (T-T) oh well… its fate… We sure didn’t see any while we were there, did we?

  9. definitely not March…im not sure when but i’ll make some planning abt it.

Thx, now im gonna work on the website with limited skill i have XD, oh well wordpress will make it easier for me.

I dunno how much is service charge and i seriously forgot to tell you about it. the airport management is a bit mess anyway. not easy to find everything and some of the stalls are not quite representable.
anyway the airport design looks old-fashioned instead of simply modern like airport these days.

Bad news, my hubby said the guy no longer there yesterday. Damn, why i didn’t look around many days before it??? oh well because i didn’t expect any japanese guy could be sooooo handsome.
The Japanese are all about cuteness >>moe<< so this ‘handsome’ guy come as a surprise. HIc HIC so sad tht i cannot show you *SOBS*

  10. Oopsy, edited now ^^ but the link was correct lol~ phew~

Ah~ icic.. that’s another tip about Blue Bird hehehe.

As for the service charge, I thought I was being “fined” for something when the check-in staff asked me for that amount. I was o_O “Huh?” but I paid up anyway. He pasted a sticker/receipt on the back of my boarding pass and showed me that it was actually a service charge and I was like… oh.. i see ^^” lol~

Oh that’s awesome! I’m expecting great things happening for ya :D Keep me updated! And yes please, I wanna see a photo of that handsome guy hehehehehe…. Looking forward to the next Kohaku edition! XD

Yay! Let me know early when you’ll be coming over k… cos I’ll most probably be going to Hong Kong in March and I don’t want to miss you!

  11. I think there’s small mistake in writing the shop’s name. LOL~

Blue Bird Group taxis are safest and the drivers are known for being polite and honest. other companies also charges by meter but so far Blue Bird is still have no.1 in services.

Ah so sorry i forgot to warn you abt the service charge. its becoz im not so sure about it myself.

Got some attention from Jakarta Shimbun and an agency of TV Tokyo’s anime. Im hoping for the best. XD
and i accidentally found a very handsome Japanese guy at Mitsubishi booth, seldom i saw a Japanese guy so handsome and yea im impressed. XD
His english is somewhat average i think..oh wee….will ask hubby to take photo of him (in pretense of taking photo of Mitsubishi booth ~ROFL)

Kohaku 4th edition cover is Shinkansen, and the online version of the magazine will be up approx mid december. yay!!
and i’ll be visiting SG next year..hooray!!!
