Hetalia Axis Powers anime is based on a web comic by Himaruya Hidekazu (日丸屋秀和).
The series presents an allegorical interpretation of political and historic events, particularly of the World War II era, in which the various countries are represented by anthropomorphic characters. Hetalia (ヘタリア) is a portmanteau combining hetare (へタレ, Japanese for “useless”) and Italia (イタリア). This is to make light of Italy’s apparent cowardice during World War II. [Grabbed from wiki. The response to the series is so overwhelming, it is currently in it’s 3rd season (Hetalia ~ World Series) now.
If you haven’t started watching it, please do so already! No BL fan girl should miss it lol~ So many bishonens in one series!!!
Funimation has released the R1 DVDs of Hetalia ~ Axis Powers Seasons one and two! Awesome news! :D This is one of my all-time favs series! I hope they do a great job for the release.
