Hakuouki (薄桜鬼) figures look similar to the Harutoki (遙かなる時空の中で) figures which were also made by Kotobukiya.

Like a BOSS. The illustration looks so much better. I’m disappointed.

Angle and close up. Hmm… the mouth seems a little wide.

His sitting position looks stiff compared to the illustration. Might be the angle the photo is taken.

Side by side comparison of the unpainted figure. The sculpted face doesn’t capture the elegance and proud expression in the original illustration but this is just the prototype so we’ll have to wait and see. Otherwise the “Like a BOSS” sitting pose looks good.

The series takes place in a fictional, re-imagined version of New York City called Sternbild City, where 45 years before, individuals with superpowers called “NEXT” started appearing and some of them became superheroes. Each of a city’s most famous superheroes work for a sponsor company and their uniforms also contain advertising for real-life companies. Their heroic activity is broadcast on the popular television show “Hero TV”, where they accumulate points by each feat accomplished and the best ranked hero of the season is crowned “King of Heroes”.

The story mainly focuses on veteran hero Kotetsu T. Kaburagi aka Wild Tiger who is assigned with a new partner, a young man named Barnaby Brooks Jr. However, Barnaby and Kotetsu usually have trouble working together as they have conflicting opinions on how a superhero should act.

Comment:

This is one of my favourite animes from the last season. Besides fast-paced, action-packed animation characteristic of Sunrise’s works, the plot is engaging and entertaining. There are colourful personalities with interesting backstories and refreshing villians and side characters. And having Yusa Kouji voicing one of the good/bad guys is an icing on the cake for me.

The Kotetsu x Barnaby (reversible) pairing is also very popular among the fujoshi and BL mangaka. Thanks to the BL fan-service in the anime lol.

Figuarts are planning to release the whole series of characters from the anime. Fortunately I’m not aiming to collect all of them ^^;; maybe only the ones of Kotetsu and Barnaby if they look good.

The first two mecha suit releases of Tiger and Bunny (right) were snapped up in a flash.I would like to get those two on the left, so I’ll be watching their release closely. Update: For those who missed out preordering Tiger’s mecha, they’re now bundling him with the character setting guide.

Release dates for some of the other figures are not announced yet. I’m quite sure we can buy most of them from usual online hobby stores but they’ll probably sell out fast.

And not to forget, these cute goods of the characters in chibi form <3 Rubber keyholders.

And trading figures… I haven’t bought any of them tho… lack of $$$. ^^;;;

And of course the evil Animate Japan exclusive Blu-Ray DVD tokuten Deformation chibis. Preorders are already sold out.

I was browsing Spray’s website today and chanced upon this set of figures listed on their goods page. I was excited until I read the details… The figure was cancelled in September 2008. The figure prototype was created by Kotobukiya which also made 1/10 figures for BL games, Togainu no Chi and Lamento Beyond the Void.

What a pity! The prototype looked pretty promising, right?

Nice paint job and detail. The electric blue looks fab!

Love the silver paint too and the logo looks clear and crisp. The headband is flexible and can be widened to fit heads slightly bigger than Akira’s.

Akira’s hair is flatter in order to fit the headphones better.

Small details are beautifully painted.

Side views show more clearly how they made more allowances on Akira’s head and pushed his ahoge back so that the headphone fits better.

Very nice details.

Hair tucked behind his ears to accommodate the headband of the phones.

This is a custom nendoroid a Japanese fan made during the Summer holidays lol~ Time well spent! Origami Cyclone in casual wear looks fantastic!

Origami Cyclone is the name of a hero character in anime, Tiger & Bunny. His real name is Ivan Karelin and he is voiced by seiyuu Okamoto Nobuhiko 岡本信彦 (Okumura Rin in Aoi no Exorcist, Kisa Shouta in Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi etc). More information about the anime in this post.

OMG!!! (O_O) I just noticed for the first time after watching 22 episodes, that Origami Cyclone’s hero suit actually shows him using a stylised nipple sticker OTL;;;

Love that face. Origami Cyclone’s weapons include the shuriken used by ninjas.

The fan did awesome work with the paint job.

I think these faces are from Konata (Lucky star) and Miku nendoroids.

Considering how popular and long-running this series is, I’m surprised that Medicom Toy didn’t pick them up earlier. I don’t follow this series but these boys look fabulous to me as a collector :D I won’t be pre-ordering them so soon since lots of things can transpire during this 6 month period. If budget allows, they’re definitely going straight into my shopping list when the release date draws nearer :)

Naruto has a beautiful and well-sculpted face. He comes with an extra smiling face as well as accessories to make this a very worthwhile buy for the collector. And with the extra option of the ability to help him get naked with Sasuke, you’ll agree he is any BL fangirl’s dream come true.

Not sure if his shoes can be removed but I don’t think that’ll be too much of an issue for delusional fujoshis out there.

Oh my, this boy is quite a beauty here. I think Sasuke’s sandals are removable. Hmm.. and they did well with the zipper. Some of the older/earlier Medicom Toy RAH figures have ridiculously huge and awful looking zippers, like two to three times bigger than the proportion you see in the images here.

More pics :) It’s obvious I like him better lol ^^ I hope both Naruto and Sasuke are wearing removable tights inside so that we can barbie-fy/ken-doll them and make them wear other nice casual clothing and yukata for the fun of it. (Having the two go for a Summer Festival date wearing yukata would be quite nice isn’t it?)

Hakuouki (薄桜鬼) figures look similar to the Harutoki (遙かなる時空の中で) figures which were also made by Kotobukiya.

Love the dynamic pose! :D

I’ll wait till the final prototype is out before making my purchase decision. The great thing about this figure is that it means Harada Sanosuke will most probably get a figure too! YAY!

Painted prototype revealed! He looks pretty close to the design.

I think he looks rather lovely! :D I’m glad the figure release date is postponed ^^;; but his release date clashes with that of Shiki from Togainu no Chi OTL;; So I won’t be rushing out to get Heisuke yet.

I’ll be receiving both Okita and Saito original version figures soon. I skipped Hijikata… :-\ somehow his pose doesn’t attract me as much as the other two. So that’s already 7,140 Yen x 2 (+proxy) of ~$$$~ gone. OTL;;;

Let’s see if they’ll have any other colour differences besides their white hair. I would be quite tempted by Saito Hajime’s figure if he really looks like my coloured pic ^^;; If budget doesn’t allow for it, I guess I’ll just imagine his hair white or photoshop it when I take his pics in the future lol. About a year ago Comic Sylph made the first mascot straps of DGS (Dear Girl Stories duo) HiroC and OnoD (Kamiya Hiroshi 神谷浩史 and Ono Daisuke 小野大輔). You can read more about them at my post here. This year, they’re back with two newly designed mascot straps of the boys!

And after I learnt the hard way with the expensive EMS shipping because the comics were so thick and heavy (See review post) I’ve made sure I find a book store that ships by SAL small packet this time ^^;;

The package arrived safely although they took longer to ship due to the shipping method. In this issue, there’s HiroC mascot strap and a Brother’s Conflict mini bath poster.

Here’s a look at the box. No frills packaging similar to the previous year’s freebie.

Quite a big box (12cmx9cm) for something so small. HiroC is about 3 cm tall.

A shot of the other freebie. Mini bath poster. You can stick it on the wall in your bathroom. It’s slightly smaller than A4… B5 size?

Quite a cute looking pair, aren’t they? Kinda remind me of Kaname and Zero from Vampire Knight. Anyway, they’re actually twins from an otome girls’ game/manga, Brother’s Conflict ブロザーズ・コンフリックト by mangaka Kanase Atsuko 叶瀬あつこ. The story centres around the heroine who now has a number of brothers (5~6 of them with varying ages? I can’t remember) after their parents married each other… if I’m not wrong. So they live together under one roof and they’re not blood related siblings. With this premise, all her “brothers” are her possible romantic interests ^^;; The manga is serialising in Comic Sylph magazine.

I don’t usually buy the magazine and so far have bought them only for the sake of getting the mascot straps ^^;;

Anyway this is a character from the manga, Yotsuba&! (よつばと! / Yotsuba to!) by Kiyohiko Azuma. I haven’t read it but I like this figure a lot :D I have the normal version without the amazon.co.jp and this time I’ll try to get my hands on these Amazon Japan versions ^^ I know there’s a 7-11 version out there and a “Good Job!/Well Done!” version released recently.

Just when we thought Kotobukiya changed their minds and decided to release him as the closed-eyed version in Chiral Gakuen First Limit, the opened-eye version of sweetie pie with a dark-side in Togainu no Chi 咎狗の血 will be part of a limited edition set to be released during Comiket 80 in August 2011!
