Update September 2011: Holy IJSAUTDTYE! Ai no Kusabi will be BACK. BluRay/DVDs slated for release from January 2012 onwards :D

Update: I’m very sad to say that according to various news sources, the anime remake has been shelved… :( Let’s hope that one day, it’ll be picked up again.

A quick update: The Ai no Kusabi staff are organising preview events at Cafe801 (cafe801.org) for the upcoming anime from: 20 March 2010 till 22 March 2010. If you’re in Japan during that time (so lucky!), you can fill up a mini survey NOW and try your luck to get the entry tickets.

Here’s the link to the survey page: http://ainokusabi.jp/preview/index.html

I filled it up too just for the sake of getting my feedback across as an overseas fan. I want them to know of our existence! XD Also they’re mainly asking questions pertaining to the DVD releases that I’m planning to buy and I’m hoping they include LOTS of tokuten since it won’t be cheap anyway ^^;;

These are the survey questions asked: View full article »

You can’t call yourself a BL fan if you’ve not watched this anime cult classic, Ai no Kusabi 間の楔 based on a novel by Rieko Yoshihara 吉原理恵子.

Hmm sounds a bit harsh since I’ve not read the original novels yet ^^” Anyway…

Ai no Kusabi is one of the -MUST WATCH- Yaoi/BL animes in my opinion. Contrary to so many readily available BL resources on the internet nowadays, anything BL outside of Japan was extremely rare years ago in the 80s~90s. During those “desperate” times, there were only a few low quality short video and sound clips online to satiate the most deprived overseas BL fan. The sheer difficulty of obtaining a copy or even watching the full video was unimaginable now. Also, Ai no Kusabi introduced me to the intriguing world of S/M and Master/Slave BL relationships when I was still an innocent… where my exposure was only to Shounen-ai influences in Shoujo mangas LOL~ Thus, Ai no Kusabi holds a special place in my heart along with other classics such as the first Yaoi manga I read, Zetsuai 絶愛 1989 by Ozaki Minami 尾崎南 (well, that’s for another post ^^).

Update 31 October 2009

NOT.

Finally got my hands on the priced-down reissue DVD (one and half years later via online order) and like… OMG~ Bloody wrong info…the internet yielded. But then again, maybe they were referring to the theatrical-movie version ? I guess we won’t be able to get that copy any longer. SIGH. DX

Anyway, in the DVD, Jareth was voiced by another seiyuu, Yamaji Kazuhiro 山路 和弘 NOT Shiozawa Kaneto! On hindsight, I found myself such an idiot. The DVD was first released in 2005. Shiozawa Kaneto-san passed away in 2000. However, I was expecting them to use the movie copy voice over anyway? SIGH. (again)

Oh well… a disappointment BUT I’ll still enjoy this DVD cos I LOVE Labyrinth the movie :)

2 Feb 2008

OMG.

Labyrinth is one of my all time favourite movies and I just found out today that Shiozawa Kaneto-san (Iason Mink in Ai no Kusabi) voiced Jareth, the Goblin King, in the Japanese version of the movie release. Info here.

OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.OMG.

I must get the DVD now…

~$~ sighs.
