2. If you plan to go for unconventional dakimakura designs or poses, please feel free to do so. Chibis are ok too! Be creative! :D
3. If you’re thinking of drawing pairings or multiple characters, it can be any combination of characters BL or non-BL. Cross-overs are ok too.
4. All submitted male characters should be characters from any anime, manga, games, drama cd, etc, I’ve written about at my blog.
5. Coloured entries preferred but B/W ok too
6. NO 18+ entries again this time round. Maybe next time :P
7. Multiple entries allowed. But they must be visually different from one another in terms of poses, layout, etc.
8. I’ll collect all your entries then post them up for voting. Ponytale’s Top 3 picks + Viewer’s Choice Award.

A bit of background of the anime (from wiki)
A Certain Magical Index is set in Academy City, a technologically advanced academic city located at western Tokyo which studies scientifically advanced superhuman students with powers, but is also set in a world where magic is real.

Accelerator 一方通行, voiced by Okamoto Nobuhiko 岡本信彦 is one of the characters in the anime. He is the most powerful esper in Academy City. His real name is unknown, though Accelerator recalls his surname was composed of two characters and his given name consisted of three characters. His name is written as “Ippoutsuukou”, meaning “One-Way Road”. His ability is “Vector Change”, which lets him control any vector he touches including motion, heat, electricity and wind. This allows him to perform various feats such as reflecting bullets, launching heavy objects and even reversing the flow of blood in people’s bodies. Since his natural ability blocks all the ultraviolet radiation, he has an albino appearance with white hair.

1) St. Valentine’s day Short Story 紅雀 Koujaku

「今日、一緒に夕飯食おう」

そんな内容のメールが紅雀から来たので、俺は仕事帰りにスーパーに寄ってから紅雀の家へ向かった。
夕飯を食おうってことは俺に作れってことだ。紅雀自身も料理は多少できるのに、いつも俺に作らせようとする。
まぁ料理するのは嫌いじゃないし、別にいいんだけど。
今夜は島全体が心なしか浮かれているようで、道行く人々もカップルが多い気がする。
それにつられるってワケじゃないけど、通い慣れた道をいつもより足早に歩きながら、
俺は紅雀が住んでいる建物の階段を上った。
廊下を歩いて部屋の扉の前に立ち、インターホンを押すと、程なくして扉が開いた。

「おぉ、蒼葉か。お疲れ」
「お疲れ、お邪魔します」
「はいよ」

いつも通り、扉を開けてくれている紅雀の横をすり抜けて靴を脱ぎ、上がりこむ。
奥の部屋に入り、買ってきた食材をさっそく冷蔵庫へ入れようとして……何か違和感を覚えた。
動きを止めて、部屋の中を見回す。
……あ。ない。
今日はバレンタインだ。なのに、山のように紙袋に詰められて溢れていたチョコレートの山がない。
毎年、この時期になると紅雀の部屋は凄い有り様だったのに。
まさか紅雀に限って１つも貰わなかったなんてことはないだろうし……。

「どうした？」

部屋の入り口で立ち止まっている俺の後ろから、紅雀が不思議そうに声をかけてくる。

「あ、いや。チョコ、ねぇなって思って。いつも毎年すごいから」
「あぁ、全部断ったからな」
「…………へ？」

紅雀がなんでもないことのように答えるので、俺は思わず背後を振り返ってしまった。

「断った？　なんで」
「悪いだろうが、相手に」
「悪い？」
「今は遊んでねぇんだよ、俺は」
「あー……」

そうか。要するに俺と付き合ってるから、他からの好意は受け取れないってことか。
なんつーか、コイツって……。

「お前さ、たまにすごい真面目っつーか律儀だよな」
「そうか？」
「うん」

頷きつつ、俺は少し多めに買ってきた食材をしまおうと冷蔵庫へ向かった。
冷蔵庫の扉を開けて、食材を次々と放りこんでいく。けど、手を動かしながら、俺は心ここにあらずな状態だった。
心臓の鼓動がだんだん速くなっていくのを感じる。
……やばいな。どうしよう。計算違いだ。
まさか紅雀がチョコを全くもらってないなんて思わなかった。

「おい、蒼葉？」

名前を呼ばれてハッとする。冷蔵庫を開けたまま、いつの間にか手を止めていたみたいだ。
平静を装おうと、慌てて手を動かす。

「何？」
「いや、ぼーっとしてたから」
「あぁ、ごめん、なんでもない」

そう答えたにも関わらず、紅雀は俺のそばへやってくると、顔を覗きこんできた。

「なんか顔色悪くねぇか？」
「んなことねーし」

言い返しつつ、つい顔が見えないように背けてしまう。さっきから感じている焦りがどんどんひどくなっていく。
なんか、うまく喋れない。
自分でもよくわからないけど、顔が強ばって引き攣りそうになるというか、うまく表情が動かせない。
なんだこれ……。
とにかく今は目の前の作業を片付けるために、集中することにする。

「蒼葉」
「ん？」
「蒼葉からはねぇのか？」
「何が」
「チョコ」

……途端、手にしていたにんじんを取り落としそうになった。

「ねーよ。ないない」
「マジか。実は密かに楽しみにしてたんだぜ？」
「なーいーって」

なんとか無事に食材を冷蔵庫にしまい終えて振り返ると、真剣なのか悪戯っぽいのかわからない紅雀の瞳と目が合った。
紅雀は腕を組み、薄く笑って冷蔵庫に凭れ掛かっている。

「本当に？」
「ねぇよ。買ってきてない」
「でも作ってきてるとか？」
「……はぁ？　お前なぁ」

反論しようとした俺を遮るように、紅雀が俺の背後を顎でくいっと示した。

「じゃ、あのカバンの端から覗いてるの、なんだ？」
「…………」

…………しまった。
すぐにカバンの方を振り返る。
床に無造作に投げ出したカバンはファスナーが少し開いていて、四角い箱の端が飛び出していた。

「いや、あれは……」
「見慣れねぇ箱だな」
「ば、婆ちゃんの荷物、間違って持ってきちゃった……、みたいな……？」

自分でも苦しすぎる言い訳を苦しい笑顔で言ってみる。けど、紅雀は静かに首を振った。

「お前が嘘つけねぇの、よーく知ってるからな」
「…………」
「なんだよ、やっぱりあるんじゃねぇか」
「だからあれは……！」
「作ったのか？」

真正面から突っこまれて、逃げ場がなくなる。
それでも往生際悪く、俺は紅雀の目を見ないようにと俯いた。

「マジか……」

俺の反応を肯定と取ったんだろう。紅雀の声に驚きが混じる。そのせいで、俺はますます追い詰められたような気分になった。

「なんで隠そうとしたんだ？」
「……いや、なんつーか」

本当は自分でもわかってる。さっきからずっと感じていた、焦りの正体。
正直、始めはそんなに重く考えてなかった。バレンタインって必ずしも女が男に贈るものじゃなく、男女問わずに贈るところもあるらしい。
だから日頃の感謝を伝えるってことで、手作りなら味も調整できるし、そんなに難しくねーし、どうせなら作ってしまおうってくらいの軽い気持ちだった。
冗談か本気かわからないけど、紅雀には普段からあれが食いたい、これ作ってくれとか言われてるし。
それに、紅雀は毎年山のようにチョコをもらってるから、その場のノリでさらっと渡せるかなー、なんて……。
でも、今年はチョコを全て断ったってのを聞いて、言い出しづらくなってしまった。
買ってきたチョコならまだしも……冷静に考えて、やっぱ男が男にチョコ作ってきたとか普通に引くよな。
やめときゃ良かった……。

「……ごめん」
「なんで謝るんだよ」
「いや、気持ち悪くね？」
「何が」
「男の手作りチョコ」

自分で言っててものすごく恥ずかしい。
俺の言葉を聞くと、紅雀は少し怒ったように溜息を吐いた。

「お前なぁ」

そして、いきなり俺を強引に抱き寄せた。
耳に熱い息が触れる。

「俺が気持ち悪いなんて言うと思うか？　嬉しいに決まってるだろ。俺のために蒼葉が作ってくれたんだ。本気で嬉しい」
「…………」

囁かれた言葉が耳の奥に染み入るようで、今度は違う意味で恥ずかしくなる。
紅雀は体を少し離して俺の顔を見つめると、軽くキスしてから笑った。

「ありがとな。大切に食うから」
「……おう」

その笑顔を見て、ほんのちょっとだけ「やっぱり作ってきて良かったのかな」と思った。
そう思ったら顔が熱くなってきて、俺はそれを隠すために紅雀の肩に顔を押しつけた。

2) St. Valentine’s day Short Story ノイズ Noize

ノイズが入院している間、俺はほぼ毎日のように看病に通っていた。
そんなある日のことだ。

俺はその日もいつも通り、俺の定位置であるベッド横の椅子に座っていた。
昼食も回診も終わってのんびりとした午後の時間が過ぎる中、ノイズは上半身を起こして枕に凭れ掛かり、雑誌を読んでいた。
果物でも剥いてやろうかと考えていたところで、ふとベッドサイドのテーブルに置かれたあるものが目に留まった。

「あのさ。前から聞きたかったんだけど」

問いかけると、ノイズが雑誌から顔を上げた。

「何」
「これ、ずっとここに置きっぱじゃね？」

それは淡いピンク色をした長方形の箱で、数日前からずっとテーブルの上に置きっ放しだった。
最初は置いてあるのも気付かなかったんだけど、来るたびに目に入るのでだんだん気になってきた。

「あぁ、それ。開けてみればわかる」
「開けてもいいのか？」
「あぁ」

興味のなさそうな返事が返ってきた。ってことはほんとにただ置きっ放しなのかと思いつつ、箱を開けてみる。
中にはハート型のチョコが行儀良く並んでいた。しかも、どう見ても高級なチョコだ。
置きっ放しなんじゃなくて、実はもったいなくて食べてないとか？

「これ、チョコじゃん。誰かくれたの？」
「あぁ、看護師が置いてった」

そういえばノイズの様子を見に来る看護師の中で、やけに落ち着きがなかったりテンションが高い人がいるんだけど……
そういうことかと納得する。

「で、ずっと置いてんのは大事に取ってあるのか？　高そうだもんな」
「違う」

ノイズが小さく首を振る。

「そんなに好きじゃない」
「チョコが？」
「あぁ」
「嫌いなのか？」
「嫌いっつーか……」

そこで言葉を止めて、ノイズは少しだけ思案するように視線を逸らした。

「食えなくはねーし、嫌いでもない。ただ、変な行事のせいで苦手になったっつーか」
「変な行事？」
「バレンタイン」

バレンタイン。
唐突にそんな単語が出てきたので、俺は面食らった。

「バレンタインで苦手になったのか？　なんで？」
「あれって、こっちだと女から男にチョコを渡すんだろ」
「あぁ」

こっちって、そうか。日本では確かに女が男にチョコを渡すけど……
そもそもノイズは日本の出身じゃないんだろう。

「なんか嫌なことでもあったのか？」
「昔、チョコ責めかってくらい大量のチョコをもらったんだよ」
「あー」

普通に聞いてると、同じ男として非常に嫌な気持ちになる話だ。
まぁコイツの場合、自慢じゃなくて事実を言ってるだけなんだろうけど。

「何、もらいすぎて嫌いになったってことか？」
「それもあるけど、チョコの中に変なもん入ってるのが多くて」
「変なもん？」
「髪の毛とか」
「え……」
「爪とか」
「え…………」
「下着とか」
「…………え！？」

下着ってどうやって入れるの！？
途方も無い話に目が点になる。
いや、そもそも小さいチョコじゃなくて、下着が入るくらいデカいチョコって可能性もあり得るか……。

「最初は一応開封してたんだけど、だんだん嫌になってきて開けなくなった。それから、チョコはあんまり食いたくねぇって思って」
「は～……」

そういう話は確かに聞いたことがある。相手のことを想うあまり、もしくはおまじないの一種か何かで、自分の体の一部をチョコに混ぜちゃったりする話。
でも、それって噂話のレベルというか、あくまで他人事というか。
身近な人間の体験談として聞くと、結構凄まじいものがあるな……。

「そりゃ俺でもちょっと苦手になるかも……。お前、結構壮絶な生き様だよな……」
「まぁ、面倒って点では。でも、１つだけ直す方法がある」

そう言うなり、ノイズは俺の方へ身を乗り出すように顔を近づけてきた。
薄い唇の端がニッと吊り上がる。

「アンタの作ったチョコなら、食ってもいい」
「は？」

意味がわからなくて、反射的に聞き返してしまった。

「どういうこと？」
「そのまんまだよ。アンタの作ったチョコなら食う。別に何が入ってても、何でも」
「え……」
「なんなら隠し味に血とか垂らしてくれても」
「やんねーよ！」

思わずツッコミを入れつつ、その状況を想像してぞぞっと鳥肌が立つ。
でもノイズはわりと本気だったのか、さらに言葉を続けた。

「作るのがダメなら、俺のチョコが苦手って意識を壊せば簡単だ。アンタの力で」
「力は使わねーよ。でもまぁ、理由が理由だからな。それでチョコが苦手になったってのはちょっと切ないよな」
「じゃあ、作ってくれんの？」

聞かれて、言葉に詰まる。
手作りチョコ……。

「まぁ……、やったことねーけど。そんなに難しくはないだろうし、多分」
「マジで？」

渋々答えると、ノイズが嬉しそうに笑みを深めた。

「じゃあ、俺はアンタに赤いバラの花束を贈る」
「バラの花？　なんで」
「調べてみろよ」

即座に突っぱねられる。けど、ノイズの口調が悪戯っぽいものだったので、俺が調べてみた方がいい理由がきっとあるんだろう。
そこは素直に応じることにする。

「アンタに壊されるの、待ってる」

わざとらしく意味深に言って、ノイズは俺の首を引き寄せると鼻先にキスをしてきた。
……ほんとコイツには勝てないと思いつつ、悔しいので俺もノイズの額にキスし返してやることにした。

3) St. Valentine’s day Short Story クリア Clear

その日は婆ちゃんが知り合いの家へ泊まりに行っていたので、家には俺とクリアだけだった。
俺のもとへ戻ってきたクリアは相変わらずの変人ぶりとドタバタぶりを発揮していたけど、まさかあんなことが起こるとは思っていなかった。

……朝。目が覚めると、何か不思議な匂いがした。
いつもの朝飯の匂いとは違う、異様なほど甘ったるい匂い……。

『蒼葉、起きてくれ。蒼葉』

変な匂いがすると思いながらも眠気の中をさまよっていると、蓮が俺の上でぽんぽん飛び跳ね始めた。

『蒼葉、台所が大変なことになっている』
「……！」

その言葉を聞いて、俺はガバッと飛び起きた。
クリア、俺、蓮、朝、台所……。
このシチュエーション、前にもどこかであった気がする……。
一気に目が覚めた俺は蓮を抱きかかえ、慌てて部屋を飛び出した。階段を駆け下りて一階へ向かう。
一階は二階よりも甘い匂いが立ち込めていて、胸焼けと嫌な予感とを抑えこみながら、台所へ続く扉を勢い良く開けた。

「クリア！」
「あ、おはようございます、蒼葉さん！」

…………、やっぱり。
嫌な予感は的中した。
台所は、それはそれは奇妙な状況になっていた。
まず、食卓の上にたくさんの茶色い物体が乗っている。
それは濃い茶色から薄い茶色と様々で、茶色にもこんなに種類があるのかと感心するほどだ。
さらに、おかしいのはその形状だ。
バナナみたいなものだったり、ちくわみたいなものだったり、パンみたいなものだったり……。
おかしい。明らかにおかしい。

「……おい、クリア」
「はい、蒼葉さん！」
「一応、聞くけど……、何やってるんだ？」
「はい！　今日はセント・バレンタインデイです！」

どろりとした茶色い液体を浸したボウルとゴム製のヘラを持ったクリアが、張り切った声とともにぶりっこポーズで身をくねらせる。
やっぱり前にも見たことあるぞ、この光景……。
あの時はクリアがガスマスクをつけてたからものすごくヤバい感じがしたけど、ガスマスクをつけてなくてもヤバいものはヤバい。
噎せ返るほどの甘い匂いがもはやチョコなのか何なのかすらわからなくなりながら、俺は混沌の渦に呑みこまれし台所へ踏みこんだ。

「クリア、あのなぁ」
「はい！」
「今日がバレンタインなのはよーーーっくわかってる。それはわかってるけど、だからってなんでこんなことになってるんだよ」
「バレンタインは好きな人にチョコレートを渡す日だと聞きました！　なので、腕を振るってチョコレート料理のフルコースを作ろうと思いまして」
「…………」
『大丈夫か、蒼葉』

……なんだか頭が痛くなってきた。
この匂いのせいだけじゃないことは間違いない。

「料理を全て作り終えたあとは、最後に僕自身をチョココーティングして完成です！」
「アホか！」
「ひぇっ！」

その発言のとんでもなさに、俺は思わずクリアへぐーぱんちを放ってしまった。
全裸に裸エプロンではないものの、クリアが悲鳴を上げて床に崩れ落ちる。

「い、痛い……。そんな……、蒼葉さんに僕の想いを伝えようと思って一生懸命作ったのに……」
「お前な……」

つくづく、本っっ当ーーーに心の底から呆れるけど、おそらくクリアとしては真面目にやってるんだろう。
俺はどうしようもない胸焼けを堪えつつ、両手で顔を覆ってしくしくと泣いているクリアのそばにしゃがみこんだ。

「ごめん、殴って悪かったって。でも気持ちは嬉しいけど、やりすぎだっつの。あちこちべたべただし、婆ちゃんが帰ってきたら怒られちまうぞ」
「う、うぅ……、そうですね……。皆さんを困らせてしまってすみません……」

クリアが涙声でうなだれる。
ほんとにコイツは悪意がないのが憎めないところでもあり……恐ろしくもある。

「ま、やっちまったもんはしょーがない。ひとまず全部片付けて、それからまた作り直そう」
「うぅ、はい……、頑張ります」
「俺も手伝うから。片付けもチョコ作りも」
「えっ」

途端、クリアががばっと顔を上げた。

「ほんとですか！？　蒼葉さんも手伝ってくれるんですか？？　チョコレート作り」
「あぁ」

お前１人に任せると心配だってのもあるんだけど……

「……今日は好きな人にチョコを渡す日なんだろ？」
「はい」
「だから、俺もやる。そんで、お前にやるよ」
「あ、蒼葉さん……、それって……」

クリアは感極まったように目を潤ませると、いきなり両腕を広げて抱きついてきた。

「蒼葉さーん！！」
「お、おいちょっと……」
「大好きです！！」

甘い匂いとチョコにまみれたクリアにぎゅうぎゅう抱き締められてよろけそうになり、慌てる。
けど、まぁ……たまにはこういうのもいいだろう。
少し笑って、俺はクリアの頭をぽんぽんと軽く撫でた。

「それじゃ、始めるぞ。まずは掃除からな」
「はい！」

さっきまでしょぼくれていたのが嘘のように、クリアの元気な返事が台所に響き渡った。

4) St. Valentine’s day Short Story ミンク Mink

２月１４日。

この日は特に女の人にとって大切な日で、碧島でもきっとみんな想いを寄せている人にチョコレートを贈ったりしているんだろう。
でも、俺たちが今いるところでは、そういった賑わいはない。周りが森に囲まれているせいもあるけど、町に行っても同じだ。
特に大げさな騒ぎはなく、いつもと変わらない時間が流れている。
だからうっかり忘れそうになったけど……数日前にカレンダーを眺めていてふと思い出した俺は、
一応ちょっとした用意をしていた。
まぁ確実にわかっているのは、バレンタインなんて言ってどんなものを贈ろうと、相手に変な顔をされるだろうってことだ。
でも、そういうサプライズは悪くないと思うし、せっかくだから挑戦してみたい気もする。

……というワケで、俺は飲み物を入れたマグカップを手に、ミンクの部屋へ向かった。
夕飯が終わると、ミンクはいつも自室へ戻って本を読む。ほのかなランプの光の中、椅子に座って黙々と本のページをめくる。
一緒に住むようになってから知ったことだけど、ミンクは本を読む時に眼鏡を掛ける。
碧島にいた頃からは想像もできないくらい、ミンクは本の虫だった。
もしかしたら本の読み過ぎで、ちょっと目が悪いのかも知れない。
しかも、新しい本を読むよりも、同じ本を繰り返し読んでいるみたいだった。

「ミンク」

部屋の扉を開けて声をかけると、本に没頭していたらしいミンクが顔を上げた。
椅子の背にはトリが留まっていて、優雅に毛繕いをしている。
俺は部屋に入り、持ってきたマグカップを机の上に置いた。
夕食後のコーヒー、と見せかけて実は違うものが入っているけど、今はそのことを言わない。何故ならこれはサプライズだから。
ミンクはマグカップを一瞥すると腕を伸ばして取り、口元へ寄せた。
内心ドキドキしながら、そばに立ってその動きを見守る。
マグカップが傾けられる寸前で、ぴたりとミンクの動きが止まった。

「…………」

ミンクがマグカップを口元から離し、眼鏡越しにちらりと俺を見た。

「何が入ってる」
「飲んでみればわかるよ」

匂いでいつもと違うことに気付いたんだろう。
ミンクは僅かに眉根を寄せて、訝るように俺をしばらく見ていたけど、またマグカップに唇を寄せた。
そのまま、ゆっくりと一口飲む。

「……どう？」

ミンクが無言でマグカップへ視線を落とす。
俺は軽い緊張と高揚を覚えつつ、その横顔を見つめた。
ミンクはあまり甘いものが得意じゃない。だから、甘みが少ないチョコレートを溶かしたものをコーヒーの代わりに出してみた。
飲み物にしたのは単純にサプライズになるってことと、チョコをそのまま贈るよりもミンクに合っている気がしたからだ。

「……で、なんなんだ、これは」
「……へ？」

次に発された言葉に、俺は間の抜けた声を出してしまった。

「なんなんだ、って、えっと」

予想しなかった展開に、ちょっとうろたえる。
あれ？　これってもしかして……。

「ミンク、今日が何の日か知らない？」
「今日？」

ミンクが少し思案するように顔を傾ける。

「２月１４日だが」
「うん」
「何か関係があるのか」
「え？」

やっぱり……
ミンク、バレンタインを知らないのか？

『今日はバレンタインというやつだろう』

椅子の背に留まっていたトリが顔を軽く前へ出す。

「バレンタイン？」
『あぁ。想い人に贈り物をする日のことだ。日本ではチョコレートを渡すのが一般的らしい』
「あぁ……」

ようやく理解したとばかりに、ミンクが短く答える。
けど、それ以上の言葉は特になく、ミンクはまた無言でマグカップへ視線を向けた。
……なんだか、だんだん居たたまれなくなってきた。
あと、申し訳なくなってきた。
俺はちょっと浮かれて準備とかしてみたけど、ミンクにしてみればバレンタインなんてものすごくどうでも良くて、ものすごくくだらないことかも知れない。
というか、その可能性の方が高い。
やっちまったかな……。
このあと、マグカップを突っ返されるかも知れない。
「飲めるか、こんなもん」とか言って……。
嫌な想像を皮切りに、自己嫌悪と落胆が一気に押し寄せてくる。

「……ごめん、変なことして」
「あぁ、確かにな」

間髪入れずに返ってきた言葉に、内心がっくりとうなだれる。
やっぱり、怒らせただけか……。

「こんなものはくだらねぇ風習だ。特にチョコを贈るなんてのはな。それに」

ミンクがそこで言葉を切り、溜息を吐く。

「わざわざ渡してこなくても、間に合ってる」
「え？」

もっとひどい言葉が来るもんだと思ってたから、一瞬、何を言われたのかわからなかった。

「何が？」
「チョコはともかく、今日は気持ちを伝えるために何か贈る日なんだろうが。それなら間に合ってるって話だ」
「……え？」

混乱する俺を置いて、ミンクはまた本へ視線を落とした。
片手に、チョコレートドリンクの入ったマグカップを持ったままで。
……そこでようやく俺は、さっきの「間に合ってる」って言葉の意味を理解した。

「え……」
『やれやれ……』

トリが呆れたように呟く。
俺は衝動的にミンクに声をかけてしまいそうになり、寸でのところで我慢した。
読書の邪魔をしちゃいけない。
それに……俺の気持ちはミンクにちゃんと伝わってるってことがわかったから、十分だ。
普段はわかりにくいけど、こうして言葉にしてもらえるのはやっぱり嬉しい。

込み上げてくる気持ちを噛み締めながら、俺はミンクの部屋をそっと後にした。

5) St. Valentine’s day Short Story 蓮 Ren

「ただいま、婆ちゃん」

仕事を終えて帰宅した俺は、夕飯を作っている良い匂いが漂う中、自分の部屋へ向かった。

「ただいま、蓮」
「おかえり、蒼葉」

部屋に入ると、蓮がベッドに座って雑誌を読んで……いると思ったら、蓮は何故かきちんとした姿勢でベッドの端に座っていた。
雑誌も読んでないし、俺が帰ってくるのを随分前からじっと待っていたように見える。
それに、どこか緊張しているような……？
いつもと違う様子を不思議に思っていると、蓮は俺を見るなりベッドから立ち上がった。

「蒼葉、もうすぐ夕飯の時間だ」
「あぁ、すげーいい匂いしてるもんな」

答えつつ、蓮をじっと観察する。
いつもはまっすぐに俺の目を見てくるのに、あまり目を合わせようとしないし落ち着きがない。

「蓮、どした？」
「……なんのことだ？」
「いや、なんかいつもと違うっつか、妙にソワソワしてるから」
「…………」

蓮は嘘がつけない。
俺の指摘に、すぐにバツが悪そうに俯いた。

「なんだよ、悩み事か何かか？　ほら、とりあえず座れって」

俺は上着を脱いでカバンを置くとベッドに座り、自分の隣をぽんぽんと手で軽く叩いて示した。
けど、蓮は俺の隣に座る前に何かを差し出してきた。

「蒼葉……、……これを」
「ん？」

見れば、差し出されたのは手の平に乗るくらいの小さな箱だった。

「プレゼントか？」
「……あぁ」
「なんだろ？」

今日って何かあったっけ？
疑問に思いつつ、俺は少しワクワクしながら箱を受け取って開けた。
箱の中には４粒のチョコが入っていた。縦と横で綺麗に仕切られていて、チョコも可愛らしい。
これってもしかして、バレンタインか？
そういえば、今日は２月１４日だ。仕事中や街を歩いてる時はなんとなく認識してたけど、
家に帰った途端にすっかり忘れ去っていた。
問うように蓮の顔を見上げると、蓮は困ったように眉根を寄せていた。

「これ、どうしたんだ？」
「……今日、買ってきたんだ」
「１人で？」
「あぁ」

その事実にちょっと驚く。
同時に、蓮が申し訳なさそうにしている理由も判明した。
蓮は人間の……セイの体にだいぶ慣れてはきたけど、外出する時は念のために必ず俺が同行している。
万が一、急に体が動かなくなったりしたら困るし、蓮は人として知らないこともまだまだたくさんある。
だから細心の注意を払っていたんだけど……。

「すまない……。１人で外出するなと言われていたから、怒らせてしまったかも知れないが……」

蓮が本当に申し訳なさそうに言葉を紡ぐ。

「でも、今日だけはどうしても１人で外出したかった」
「これを買いに行くために？」
「そうだ。俺は今までずっと、どうすれば蒼葉に感謝の気持ちを伝えられるだろうかと考えていた。それで、今日がバレンタインだと知った。……ただ」

蓮がますます申し訳なさそうに目を伏せる。

「持ち合わせがあまりなかったので、そのくらいのものしか買えなかったのだが……」

……そうか。
普段は俺がずっと一緒にいるから、蓮には何かあった時のためのちょっとしたお金しか持たせてなかった。
そのお金で買ってきてくれたのか……。

「……蒼葉、怒っているのか？」

俺が黙ってチョコを見つめていると、蓮が心配そうに聞いてきた。
その顔へ、俺は自分でもそうだとわかるくらい満面の笑みを向けた。

「いや、全然」
「だが……」
「すっげー嬉しい。ありがと、蓮」
「そうか……」

ようやくほっとしたのか、蓮が深く息を吐き出す。

「チョコレートを売っていそうな店に入ってはみたものの、店内の女性客がみんな……その、どうも俺のことを気にしているようだったので、何か間違っているのではないかと不安に思っていた」
「そりゃあ……、間違っちゃいないけど、まぁ注目はされるだろうな。女の人からチョコを渡す日だし」

女性客だらけの中、男が１人でチョコを買いに行くのはかなりの勇気が要る。
蓮も肩身の狭い思いをしたはずだ。
そこまでして買ってきてくれたんだと思うと、嬉しさの他に言いようのない感情がこみ上げてくる。

「つーかさ、俺、ちょっと考え直さなきゃって思った」
「考え直す？」
「うん。俺さ、お前のこと心配しすぎだったかなって。もちろんまだ心配ではあるけど、でもお前だってガキじゃねーもんな。これからちゃんと、お前のことはお前に任せていかねーと」
「蒼葉……」

俺はゆっくりと箱の蓋を閉めて、立ち上がった。

「これ、ほんとにありがとな。夕飯のあとに大事に食うよ。蓮の気持ち、しっかり伝わったから」
「そうか。蒼葉には本当に感謝している。……いつもありがとう」
「こちらこそ」

お決まりの蓮のセリフを俺が返すと、蓮は少し驚いたように瞬いて、それから嬉しそうに微笑んだ。

Nitro+Chiral tweeted the pic showing only the bottoms of the upcoming DRAMAtical Murder Koujaku Plushie 「ドラマティカル マーダー」「紅雀ぬいぐるみ」and Noize Plushie 「ノイズぬいぐるみ」Seriously love the detail on Koujaku’s outfit! I hope his face looks just as good!

And that’s Noize’s cute butt.

Ready your wallets my friends! :D My guess is that they’ll probably be released along with Aoba’s figure in March 2013. Highly likely too that they’ll be exclusives just like Plushie Aoba.

Aoba’s big smile sure is irresistible. The set includes a 2013 calendar, schedule book, ball-point pen and a clear file set. Since my usual proxy that goes to events doesn’t take international orders anymore, I’m going to get it from the online store. So glad that they accept foreign credit cards! I received this calendar since October 2012 and have been waiting eagerly to use it. For some reason I didn’t get around to using the Togainu no Chi 2012 calendar of military Shiki and Akira I had :(

What a beauty! The front side is matt-laminated and the artwork print is truly gorgeous!

Back of the calendar is glossy-laminated. Probably helps if we’re using sticky tape to paste on the wall? The paper is quite thick too.

The actual portion of the poster where the calendar is located. Right at the bottom. I’ll say that only takes up 5% of the while poster. This I guess is what we want. And the best is, it doesn’t eat into the illustration which is great.

Happy New Year 2013! Eat yummy Japanese mochi!

Continuing the similar style and theme from 2012, Dramatical Murder character designer Honyarara presents us with another fun and energetic DMMd New Year illustration for 2013!

Koujaku and Noize bashing up boiled mochigome (sticky rice 餅米) and Mink making Clear into a snowman which looks similar to the Japanese rice cake decoration kagami mochi (鏡餅)

One of the Japanese customs during the new year is creating rice cakes (餅, mochi). Boiled sticky rice (餅米, mochigome) is put into a wooden shallow bucket-like container and patted with water by one person while another person hits it with a large wooden mallet. Mashing the rice, it forms a sticky white dumpling. This is made before New Year’s Day and eaten during the beginning of January.

Mochi is made into a New Year’s decoration called kagami mochi (鏡餅), formed from two round cakes of mochi with a tangerine (橙, daidai) placed on top. The name daidai is supposed to be auspicious since it means “several generations.”

What is omikuji? (Info edited from wiki)

O-mikuji (御御籤, 御神籤, or おみくじ, o-mikuji) are random fortunes written on strips of paper at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan. Literally translated as “sacred lot”, these are usually received by making a small offering to the shrine. Generally a five-yen coin as it is considered good luck. After that you randomly choose one lot from a box, and hope for the best.

The o-mikuji is scrolled up or folded, and unrolling the piece of paper reveals the fortune written on it. It includes a general blessing which can be any one of the following:

* Excellent luck (dai-kichi, 大吉)
* Middle good fortune (chuu-kichi, 中吉)
* Small good fortune (shou-kichi, 小吉)
* Good fortune (kichi, 吉)
* Half-good fortune (han-kichi, 半吉)
* Future good fortune (sue-kichi, 末吉)
* Future small good fortune (sue-shou-kichi, 末小吉)
* Bad fortune (kyou, 凶)
* Small bad fortune (shou-kyou, 小凶)
* Half-bad fortune (han-kyou, 半凶)
* Future bad fortune (sue-kyou, 末凶)
* Terrible fortune (dai-kyou, 大凶)

Although there are 12 fortune patterns, the Spray omikuji  has their own customised 10. The o-mikuji predicts the person’s chances of his or her hopes coming true, of finding a good match, or generally matters of health, fortune, life, etc.

Which one did you get? I drew a bad fortune at first try orz;; But reading the text closely doesn’t really mean it is bad fortune. Just that I need to work harder at solving challenges faced in love, work etc… And one of them is…

DON’T USE MONEY. SAVE IT!
