Quick Summary:
“My knight. I am the ruler of your destiny.”
Based on a yaoi manga by Inariya Fusanosuke-sensei (稲 荷家房之介), two soldiers from warring countries are bound by their pledge to each other as master and servant. Taki Reizen タキ レイゼン (Chiba Susumu) is a commander of sublime beauty, who has the fate of his nation upon his shoulders. Klaus von Wolfstadt クラウス ヴォルフシュタット (Inoue Kazuhiko), nicknamed “Mad Dog” because of his rough temperament, has sworn his loyalty to him as a knight. Their turbulent relationship is constantly challenged by cold and disapproving voices. What will come of love and emotions made brutal by the violence of war?

Men in military uniforms just has that special and unexplainable appeal, don’t they? *slurps* And then there’s the drama, angst and the non-con… that comes in the form of Hyakujitsu no Bara. The Limited Edition DVD vol. 1 is now available for pre order and will be available end of this May. This is definitely one of the more highly anticipated BL animes this year after Ai no Kusabi and Sex Pistols… not like that there’re many releases anyway lol~ but still ^^ it totally feels like a prolonged drought after Junjou Romantica ended. (T_T)
Hyakujitsu no Bara will be animated by Prime Time, who did a great job for Ikoku Irokoi Romantan (異国色恋浪漫譚), so much so that I was willing to overlook Ikoku’s cheesy storyline and script for the super-pretty animation and *ahem* delicious sex scenes lol~ especially in vol. 2. The overall art and animation quality in vol. 1 just wasn’t as good as it was in vol. 2 which was thankfully put through stricter quality control by Yamane Ayano-sensei.
Judging from the official Hyakujitsu no Bara trailer… that has a horizontally rendered, chest-heaving and naked (but censored) bishonen…

It looks very promising… if they can maintain the quality shown. I’m also quite happy that they managed to keep pretty close to the original character design.
There’ll be a total of two episodes, to be released one 30-min episode per DVD. Each DVD costs 9500 Yen. Do they think BL fans have access to money trees or what… they’re trying to milk us dry! o_O The items that come with the first DVD include: an illustrated box, a card, 24-page booklet, and a bonus DVD. Quite a similar package to what was offered in Ikoku’s lovely (but still expensive!) limited edition DVDs which also cost the same at 9500 Yen each.
I’ve listened to the Hyakujitsu no Bara Drama CD that has Inoue Kazuhiko and Chiba Susumu as the leads. Inoue Kazuhiko was spot on awesome but Chiba Susumu… well, he was good too, except when it comes to the H-scenes. His uke just isn’t my type. Sigh~ I’m still hopeful tho’… and am looking forward to this release :)

omg yes i took your warning an when i listened to it yes…my ears died. They kinda ruined his voice by doing the whole monster echo thing. During the H-scene i thought i was like listening to someone getting killed.; The secound H- sense it was less annoying because he was still slightly human there.;
Yea for some reason i think i did see ikoku iroki i don’t remember when though. I think it was on youtube so i don’t think i saw the full-version of from what i remember.
@sigma: yeah… too much echo! The H scene in the second vol. is much much better since we get to hear his usual uke voice :3 I’ll always have a soft spot for the fantasy genre. Anyway come to think of it, there is very little fantasy genre in BL huh.
I didn’t have time to write a post about Ikoku Irokoi Romantan when they released it in 2007. Gosh… how time flies! I bought the DVDs later on during a sale. Aarin subbed it but they can’t release it officially cos they had a take-down notice from the manga publisher for the related manga. But I think you should still be able to find the videos online. It is beautifully animated and very smutty and hot. Well, important thing is the manga doesn’t take itself too seriously, so the animation is also quite fun to watch and enjoy. We have a tsundere yakuza successor uke and an overly enthusiastic blond navy captain seme who likes all things Japanese (including its men) lol~

hmm yea come to think of it i can’t really think of much fantasy yaoi/bl either.I think maybe it is hard to write about without sounds cliche maybe? I can think of a few mangas that use alot of the edo period themed fantasy. Like spirits an things. There the kara kyo maoh but it isn’t really yaoi. i never got far with it. I did love conrad an yuri.

@sigma: yeah, there’s one I have a deeper impression is the Ice Cold mountain demon manga or something along that line but that’s more shounen ai than yaoi :) KKM is cute… a lot of fan service ^^ and I would consider it shounen-ai? I was halfway through the second season and then I dropped. Thinking of finishing it one of these days.
I like Amatsuki a lot ^^ Edo theme. Not BL tho. Pity the anime didn’t get a second season cos of some staff troubles.
